4 Creative Ideas for Kindness Activities

Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. It really is a simple act, but we also know that there are times when our students struggle with the act of kindness.

As teachers, we play a big role in the social-emotional learning of our students. This is why choosing kindness activities for the classroom is so important. Celebrating kindness will make your students feel great, and they will love learning with these fun kindness activities!

Teaching Kindness

I love celebrating kindness with my students each year. In fact, my students have come to love it just as much as I do. The Kindness Activities Bundle is a great resource to focus not only on being kind in the classroom but also on how your students can spread kindness throughout their larger community.

Students will love completing the different activities in this twenty-page printable or digital (Google slides) resource. Specifically, there are nine gamified activities such as a challenge board and code cracker!

Additionally, there are seven different kindness writing assignments. You can even take the quotes and use them for morning work. Honestly, there are so many different ways to use these ideas. There is even a kindness award that you can give out to your students for completing the unit! They love the recognition, and I love that they have learned something about showing compassion to others.

Building a Classroom Community

I am always looking for ways for my students to grow as a community. As teachers, we know that acts of kindness make the world a happier place, but we must instill this type of social-emotional learning into our students. The Kindness Challenge Cards are perfect for this! Specifically, there are 54 kindness challenge cards, a kindness challenge bingo board, and three different writing templates.

The challenge cards are perfect for exploring random acts of kindness and practicing skills to show empathy to others. Best of all, students can work in small groups to complete the activity all while building a strong classroom community.

Kindness Writing

When discussing the importance of being kind, a kindness writing activity provides excellent reflection. Kindness Acrostic Poems are a great way to get your students interested in writing while tapping into their social-emotional learning.

First, you can use the included flashcards to guide your students to think about their purpose for writing. There are four types of poems included. Specifically, these are sense, acrostic, ballad, and cinquain. Next, students will take a poem and use the example to create their own version, along with a mindmap. Your students will love describing things like friendship and respect.

The Kindness Acrostic Poems can be used as individual literacy circles or a whole class assignment. Also, you can model the process by putting one on the board, and filling it in together. Honestly. these prompts are an excellent way to combine an essential social-emotional learning topic with academics.

Benefits of Kindness Activities

Truly, there are so many ways to teach kindness in the classroom. The kindness activities above are fantastic ways to do this. When students are faced with adversity, resources like Kindness Activities will show children how to overcome this.

I always enjoy seeing how my students change with each kindness lesson. Little moments of kindness start to pop up in the classroom each day. If my students start to slip, I can always pull out something from my kindness toolbox and add it to our lesson as a subtle reminder.
